January offers a unique opportunity to witness the majesty of bald eagles in their wintering grounds. Eagles Et Cetera, an annual celebration held at DeGray Lake Resort State Park, is a must-do for birdwatchers, nature enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a memorable outdoor experience.
This year's annual event takes place from Friday, January 17th to Sunday, January 19th, 2025, and it's one of our favorite events to attend!
Eagles Et Cetera celebrates the bald eagle and other birds of prey as well as focusing on conservation efforts of our national symbol and its counterparts.
Five Unforgettable Experiences at Eagles Et Cetera
1. Eagle watch tours: Make reservations for a guided boat tour. You'll cruise DeGray Lake in search of wintering bald eagles. You might also see loons, osprey, grebes, herons, and other birds around the lake. These tours, led by knowledgeable State Park interpreters, provide a unique perspective on the lake's diverse wildlife.
2. Live falconry hunt: This is hands down our favorite activity of the weekend - and perhaps one of our favorite things to do EVER! Witness the art of falconry firsthand. Join a guided boat ride to an island where trained hawks are released to hunt for prey. Observe these magnificent birds in action as they skillfully navigate the terrain, showcasing their incredible hunting prowess. This unforgettable experience offers a glimpse into the natural world at its most thrilling.
3. Meet an owl: One of the many educational programs held inside the lodge is a live birds of prey presentation, featuring birds from the Little Rock Zoo. You'll learn which birds are native to Arkansas, and get to see them up close - including Lynn, the American Bald Eagle.
4. Raptor Rehab: Gain valuable insights into the vital work of rehabilitating injured raptors. Learn about the challenges faced by these incredible birds and witness the heartwarming process of their return to the wild. If you're lucky, you'll get to watch a live release of a newly rehabilitated bird!
5. Coffee with the birds: Tiffany's Bed and Breakfast is the perfect place to stay to view songbirds from our front porch. We can even point you towards a secluded spot near our B&B where you may have the chance to spot eagles. We'll have a hot mug of coffee ready for you when you wake up, and then we'll serve you breakfast at Tiffany's to start your day off right.
